In an article in the Brisbane Courier (Saturday 7 July 1923, p19) Archibald Meston (politician, journalist) recalled his memories of Brisbane 53 years ago and mentioned that "Mrs Phillips [Paulovich but known by her previous name] had two handsome daughters, Kate and Lydia Phillips".

  • Notes
    • On Kate and Frank's wedding certificate, it states that her father was a gentleman and that her mother's name was Marianne Lyans. Kate was listed as being born in Paterson, Co Durham, NSW.

Dell Cowley states that Frank Cowley apparently left Kate Isobel in the late 1880s. Kate died of bowel cancer.

      SMH Tues 31 July 1894
COWLEY - July 30, at her residence, 3 Campbell Street, Milson's Point, North Shore, Kate Isabel, wife of Frank Cowley, aged 41.

Kate's year of birth is based on her age given on her wedding certificate - 23 years of age in 1871.

Kate is buried in St Thomas' Cemetery, North Shore, Sydney - 1 Aug 1894, Grave 551 Section 705B. No headstone or grave can be found.

Campbell Street stretched from Milson's Point to Kirribilli and is now called Kirribilli Ave. Along with other houses in western Campbell St, her house was demolished to make way for the northern approaches to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Rob Cowley suggests that it was where the north-east pylon of the bridge is now located. Campbell Street was in North Sydney (originally called St Leonards until 1890) and and Kirribilli Ward in 1885
