      WEDDING IN ENGLAND HAS SYDNEY INTEREST
      An Australian school teacher and a university professor of history who met aboard ship on their way to England about 18 months ago, will be married at West Kirby, England today. The bride is Miss Patricia Webb, only daughter of the late Major Phillip Webb and Mrs Webb of Vaucluse. She went overseas on the teachers' exchange system and has been teaching in Northern Ireland. The bridegroom is Professor John Ward, of Strathfield, a Dominions Fellow at St John's College, Cambridge, and Challis Professor of History at Sydney University. The wedding will take place at the home of the bride's uncle. Captain Malcolm Glacier, at West Kirby. Professor and Mrs. Ward will return to Sydney in the Strathaird in January.

    • Professor Ward's career at the University of Sydney spanned 47 years. He was a distinguished historian and was appointed Challis Professor History in 1947. In 1981 he was appointed Vice-Chancellor, retiring in January 1990 at the age of 70.
